I truly believe that people today are looking for quick fixes and that just doesn’t happen! The only reason self help books or cd’s will not work is because you don’t let them (unless they are complete rubbish but if it sounds simple and common sense it tends to work)! I have read reviews for all Paul’s cd’s and the biggest criticism is the simplicity and how it’s nothing new which is the complete key! It’s the same for anything you could teach yourself to be happy, confident, stop smoking, be thinner etc!!! We all have it inside us as it is (there are exceptions obviously for example you have mental health issues you may require additional support from doctors etc but generally it works and even if you do have mental health issues like myself you still have to be willing to help yourself I learned this the hard way!) only us that can change our life! Some of us just need a helping hand! Paul obviously taught himself and you could to! The tools are basic and you should have heard them before as they are the correct ones to follow! I think we are all looking for something far too complicated! If you want to loose weight eat less and exercise….NOTHING ELSE WILL WORK, IT’S A FACT! You can’t go against nature or your body! So yes you could do it without Paul I did eventually loose the weight without him but only because the first time I tried the cd’s I wanted a quick fix something that I did know already! So one day I got to the point where I was ready to change my life! All I did was half my portions, eat slower, exercise everyday and stick to it for ever and but I still eat sweets regular and drink alcohol once a week just less eventually you will not be able to eat or want to eat as much exactly what Paul said! (try vodka and soda water…the cals are in the mixer too remember…always have diet mixer)! It needs to be a way of life, if your not interested in that then you will fail! If you diet for 6 months and go back to eating what you eat before are you not going to put weight on again??? Anything you don’t burn is turned to fat! Paul is only the facilitator! Nothing will be new, apart from some simple technique to help you stick to them! In the end it will only work if you want it to work! It just takes us starting a trend so eventually it will be second nature to us!
Review 2
McKenna does it again, with an approach to controlling stress that uses a combination of simple, common sense rational thinking alongside an intelligent reprogramming system which seeks to change the way we deal with the problems facing us.
There is the complaint that some of this material is simply a recycled version of his other programmes, but I feel is a little unfair. I think it’s better to consider Control Stress as McKenna’s honing of particular skills to a specific affliction. And with that in mind, the book is tailor-made for those who feel stress weighs them down and prevents them from achieving their goals.
As a psychologist working first hand with people who are unable to cope with similar issues as the result of relationships breaking down – as in Get Real! Relationship Success is an Inside Job – I feel McKenna’s approach is responsible and effective, and recommend his book to anyone who feels then need to take command of their state of mind.
